Parc National des Volcans/ Volcanoes National Park is a home to critically endangered mountain gorillas, is located in Northern Rwanda. It also inhabits 13 primate species including the endangered Golden Monkeys, vervets, Colobus and Mangabeys with mammals like forest elephants and Buffaloes as well as about 300 bird species. The popular tour activity here is Gorilla tracking. This Safari starts and ends in Kigali.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali - Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival, you will meet your drive guide at Kigali Airport, warmly welcome you and drive north-wards through the beautiful terraced hillsides of Rwanda, gradually climb to the base of the awesome volcanoes with about five peaks clearly visible. It is just 2hrs drive from Kigali. Relax in Kinigi Guest House or Gorilla’s Nest as you wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking Adventure
You will transfer to Kinigi Headquarters with packed lunch, water and light rain jackets, attend a briefing about Gorilla tracking. Tracking for gorillas goes through thick, steep and slippery jungle grounds of the forest. Gorilla tracking is strenuous and tiresome but meeting and staying with these giant apes is worth the effort. You will be allowed to stay with gorillas for 1 hour for observation and photography.
If the evening is free, you can take community walk around the area. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Departure
After that incredible experience, transfer to Kigali and depending on your flight schedule, you can take a city tour in Kigali, visit the genocide memorial cites, art and crafts shops and local markets, after which you proceed to the airport for your flight.
