The 5 days gorilla and wildlife safari offer the opportunity explore Rwanda’s wildlife and enjoy the incredible experience of the endangered mountain gorillas. This safari will give you the opportunity to take game drives in Akagera National Park, track the gentle Giants (Gorillas) in Volcanoes National park, excellent bird watching, cultural excursions and Nature walks.
Detailed Safari itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Depart to Akagera National Park
Upon arrival in Rwanda, you will meet your driver guide at the airport and then transfer to Akagera National Park. The journey rewards you with beautiful scenic viewing.
Have lunch and go a game drive alongside the Lake Ihema circuit expect to see man Elephants, Masai Giraffes, Buffaloes, Zebras, Hippos, Nile Crocodiles and also many other mammal species. This game drive will also enable you to clearly view the gentle hills blending beautifully with lowland swamps and water bodies.
Day 2: Game drive and Boat ride
Wake up early for a cup of tea/coffee and go for another game drive in the northern circuit of the park. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and landscape through the northern circuit where you will see hippos, crocodiles and even more wildlife than on the lake circuit. Return to the lodge for full breakfast; relax along the pool side as you wait for lunch. After lunch, embark on a Boat ride on Lake Ihema, which will reward you with large number of hippos, huge Nile crocodiles and about 525 bird species.
Day 3: Akagera– Kigali City - Kinigi
Drive back to Kigali after breakfast; visit the Genocide Memorial, Kigali Museum, Nyamata Church and local fruits markets. Have lunch, and then proceed north-wards through the beautiful terraced hillsides of Rwanda,
Dinner and overnight stay in Kinigi Guest House or Mountain Gorilla’s nest lodge.
Day 4: Rwanda Gorillas in the Mist.
Early start to begin the gorilla tracking. The hiking may be long and somewhat strenuous at times while patience is the order of the day. Upon sighting the gorillas, you will stay with them for one magical hour before returning to the park offices. If the evening is free, we can take a short cultural tour to nearby communities.
Dinner and overnight at Kinigi Guest house or Virunga Lodge.
Day 5: Parc National des volcans – Kigali – Departure
Have a nice relaxed morning, where we can just soak in the ambiance of the place, reflect back upon the adventures of our past days, and pack. Depending on our flight schedules we may have lunch at the Lodge and then depart for Kigali for your return flight.
