Itinerary

4-Day Ndutu Migration Safari – Wildebeest Calving & Crater Tour

DAY 1: Game Drive in Lake Manyara National Park

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha, you’ll be welcomed by your Activentures Africa driver-guide and begin your journey toward Lake Manyara National Park. This small but spectacular park offers lush forests, open grasslands, and a lake that teems with wildlife and birdlife.

The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, large baboon troops, and grazing herds of buffalo, giraffe, and impala. Along the lakeshore, you may spot pink flamingos and pods of hippos cooling off in the water. After a full day of exploration, retire to your nearby lodge for dinner and overnight rest.

Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Lodge near Lake Manyara of your choice

DAY 2: Ngorongoro Crater Safari

After an early breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Upon arrival, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a massive volcanic caldera with some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.

You’ll explore the crater floor on game drives, spotting elephants with enormous tusks, prides of lions, grazing herds of zebra and wildebeest, and perhaps even a black rhino.

A picnic lunch is enjoyed at a scenic spot on the crater floor. In the afternoon, ascend the crater wall and transfer to your overnight lodge.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Lodge near the crater rim or in Karatu of your Choice

DAY 3: Drive to Serengeti National Park (Central Region)

This morning, head toward the legendary Serengeti National Park. Your journey crosses the highlands and grasslands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before descending into the vast Serengeti plains.

Upon entering the park, your game drive begins immediately. Central Serengeti is renowned for its abundance of lions, leopards, and cheetahs, making it a highlight for big cat sightings.

Arrive at your tented camp in the late afternoon and enjoy a bush dinner under the stars.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation:Central Serengeti Tented Camp of your choice

DAY 4: Full-Day Safari in Central Serengeti

Spend a full day exploring Central Serengeti, an area that supports year-round wildlife thanks to its permanent water sources.

Your guide will tailor the day based on your preferences—whether it’s a full-day drive with a packed picnic or two separate game drives broken up with a midday rest at camp.

Expect to see large lion prides, hyena clans, and perhaps leopards lounging in acacia trees. Watch the ever-changing theater of the savannah unfold before you.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: 2nd night in a Central Serengeti Tented Camp

DAY 5-6: Great Migration Tracking in Seasonal Locations

You’ll now move to a region of the Serengeti based on where the Great Migration is active during your travel season.

Between January and March, you’ll head to Ndutu for the calving season.

From May to July, the Western Corridor is the best place to witness the Grumeti River crossings.

From July through October, the Northern Serengeti near the Mara River is the prime spot for dramatic crossings into Kenya.

These two days focus on tracking the massive herds of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles as they follow seasonal rains. Predators follow close behind, and sightings of lions and cheetahs on the hunt are common.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Seasonal tented camp in Serengeti

DAY 7: Morning Game Drive and Flight to Zanzibar

Begin your day with a final sunrise game drive, when the light is golden and animals are most active.

After brunch back at camp, transfer to the nearby airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar Island, a tropical archipelago off Tanzania’s coast. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your beach lodge for a relaxed evening by the ocean.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Beach lodge in Zanzibar

DAY 8-9: Zanzibar Leisure Days or Optional Tours

These two days are yours to enjoy the beach paradise of Zanzibar. Stroll white-sand beaches, swim in crystal-clear waters, or just relax under palm trees.

Optional activities include:

- Stone Town tour (historical walking tour through Zanzibar’s UNESCO-listed capital)

- Spice Plantation visit (learn the island’s spice trade legacy)

- Snorkeling or diving excursions

- Jozani Forest walk (to see red colobus monkeys)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Beach lodge in Zanzibar

DAY 10: Departure from Zanzibar

Enjoy a final breakfast with an ocean view. You’ll then be transferred to Zanzibar International Airport for your onward flight. If you have time before departure, consider last-minute souvenir shopping or one final swim in the sea.

Why Travelers Trust Us

Our guests don’t just come for the wildlife. They come for something more—the rare combination of uncompromising comfort, authentic connection, and purpose-driven travel that defines every Activenture journey.

If someone had told me that it was possible to go on an African Safari for the first time and it would be a completely stress-free, relaxing, safe and first-rate vacation all the way through, I wouldn’t have believed that was possible. But then I found Diana and her team. All the way through, my wife and I were very impressed with the detail of the planning and the quality of the lodging, guides and drivers. We feel very lucky that we found Diana’s team and we’re grateful for all they did to make our trip one that we will always treasure. We did the 6 days gorilla and tree-climbing lions package.

Diana was very helpful in setting up my Gorilla Tracking excursion to Bwindi. She did all of the leg work so that all we had to do was enjoy the trip.
Robert, our driver, was courteous and professional and provided invaluable assistance during the trip.
I would highly recommend Diana and her Team to anyone considering a trip to Uganda.

We had an amazing family holiday in Uganda, with thanks to Diana and our guide. We visited Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park and finally the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the Mountain Gorillas. The team went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable trip and ensured our safety at all times. Would highly recommend using Diana & her team for your trip.

“What made it unforgettable? The people. The places. The purpose. You’re not just a visitor—you become part of something bigger. I came for the wildlife and left feeling connected to the continent.”

“We’ve traveled extensively, but nothing felt as genuine and personal as this. Our guide had grown up near the park—we weren’t just seeing animals; we were understanding them. And the people.”

“There were moments I forgot I was on a guided trip—it felt more like being hosted by a friend who knew every secret path, every story. I’ll never forget sitting under the stars in Bwindi after our gorilla trek. Life-changing.”

I joined the 20-day birding tour across Uganda and Rwanda—what a paradise. Over 500 species, expert guides, and moments of pure stillness in forests I’d only dreamed of. Spotting the shoebill in Mabamba, just wow!!!. Activentures really knows how to slow you down and tune you in.

Our family safari in Rwanda felt intimate and empowering. We trekked golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, then immersed ourselves in learning basket weaving from a local women’s cooperative. Wow! It was real, raw, and restorative. Activentures made it feel safe, seamless, and deeply human.

Climbing Mt. Kenya with Activentures was wild in the best way. Altitude, silence, the grit, the moments where I thought, ‘I can’t do this,’ and then somehow did. Our guides were incredible—serious when it mattered, but full of stories and laughter too. Summit day nearly broke me, but standing up there, above the clouds, was the most alive I’ve ever felt.
