Stop in Mbarara for lunch and stretch your legs with optional photo ops along the way. As the altitude rises and forests thicken, you’ll sense the transition into Bwindi Impenetrable National Park—home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. DAY 3: Gorilla Trekking – A Humbling Encounter in the Forest
Today is a pilgrimage into the wild. After an early breakfast and safety briefing, you’ll venture deep into the ancient rainforest with expert trackers in search of one of Bwindi’s habituated gorilla families. The trek may take 2 to 6 hours depending on their movements, but the reward is unforgettable: one magical hour in the quiet company of these gentle giants. Watch young gorillas tumble in play, mothers cradle their young, and the silverback command respect with a mere glance. The 7-hour drive is scenic and contemplative, offering glimpses of tea plantations, crater lakes, and distant peaks. Arrive at Trekkers Hostel, a charming mountain base nestled at 1,450 meters elevation. The cool highland air signals your entry into another world. DAY 5: Hike to Sine Hut (2,596 meters) – Into the Afro-Montane Forest
The adventure begins in earnest. Depart Trekkers Hostel after breakfast and step onto the trail leading into the Afro-montane forest zone. As you climb gradually along the valley floor, sunlight filters through towering canopy trees, illuminating moss-draped branches and fungi-covered trunks. The air is cool, damp, and filled with birdsong—the melodies of Rwenzori Turacos and bar-tailed trogons accompany your every step.
Keep your eyes peeled for troops of black-and-white Colobus monkeys leaping through the canopy, or the elusive L’Hoest’s monkey, revered in local Bukonzo culture. After 5 to 6 hours of hiking, you'll reach Sine Hut, perched on a narrow ridge near a cascading waterfall. Relax on the veranda, sip warm tea, and take in the forested beauty below.
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Sine Hut (2,596 m)
DAY 6: Climb to Mutinda Camp (3,688 meters) – Enter the Bamboo & Heather Zone.
Today’s climb leads you into the mystical Bamboo-Mimulopsis zone, where high steps and slippery trails challenge your balance—but reward your effort with stunning forest scenes. Giant heather trees wrapped in moss tower above you as the trail winds through steep ridges and knolls. Break at Kalalama Camp (3,147 m) for tea, then push onward through valleys cloaked in mist and lined with cascading streams. As the altitude increases, the ecosystem shifts dramatically—sphagnum moss carpets the ground, and colorful lobelias bloom along the riverbanks.
Reach Mutinda Camp by afternoon, where a nearby waterfall invites you to wash and refresh. For those with energy left, a side hike to Mutinda Lookout (3,925 m) offers commanding views of the Rwenzori peaks, Kasese town, and Lake George shimmering in the distance.

Marshy stretches lead to Bugata Camp, perched on a ridge overlooking Bugata Lake and its shimmering reflections of Weismann’s Peak, often dusted with snow. On clear days, you’ll spot the crystalline waters of Lake Africa and the jagged ridges pointing back toward Mutinda. At over 4,000 meters, your body will begin acclimating to the thin mountain air as you prepare for the glacial world ahead.

The trail offers crystal-clear views of the three iconic Rwenzori peaks—Stanley, Baker, and Speke—often backlit by the morning sun. Watch for Malachite Sunbirds feeding on lobelia blooms as you wind your way through this high-altitude garden.
Continue past the pass and climb steadily to Hunwick’s Camp, where jaw-dropping views unfold of Mt Stanley, Weismann’s Peak, and McConnell’s Prong. The atmosphere here is raw, remote, and powerful—a high mountain haven where you truly feel immersed in the “Mountains of the Moon.”

DAY 9: Climb to Margherita Camp (4,485 meters) – At the Foot of the Glacier
From Hunwick’s Camp, the trail dips briefly through the rocky valley floor toward the glassy waters of Lake Kitandara, surrounded by boggy meadows and mist-wrapped ridges. After a brief rest at the lake’s edge—often described as one of the most beautiful spots in the Rwenzoris—you begin a challenging climb up Scott Elliott’s Pass, your gateway into the high glacier zone.
Above the pass, scramble over ridgelines and boulder fields until you reach Margherita Camp, nestled between massive rocks at 4,485 meters. The air is sharp and cold; the mood—solemn and reverent. This is the same camp where the Duke of Abruzzi staged his historic 1906 ascent of Margherita Peak. You’ll rest early here and prepare for a summit push that begins long before dawn.
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch, Dinner

DAY 10: Summit Margherita Peak (5,109 meters) – Standing on the Roof of Uganda
Rise by 2:00 am. After a light meal and final gear check, you begin your ascent under starlight. Crampons crunch on the ice as you move across Stanley Glacier, roped up for safety, guided by experienced mountaineers. The air is thin, the slope steep—but adrenaline and determination push you forward.
By mid-morning, you reach Margherita Peak (5,109 m)—Africa’s third-highest point. Here, at the edge of the Congo and the roof of the Rwenzoris, you stand amid wind, cloud, and sheer awe. Snap your summit photo, breathe in the freezing air, and reflect on how far you’ve come.
Descend cautiously and return to Hunwick’s Camp, your knees and heart full, your mind buzzing with the images of glaciers, sky, and summit glory.

The panoramic views open toward the entire Stanley Range, revealing Mt Speke, Mt Baker, and Scott Elliott’s Pass. After reaching Oliver’s Pass (4,505 m), the trail leads downward through grassy ridges and alpine meadows.
As you lose altitude, the landscape transforms again. Descend into the lush Nyamwamba Valley, where crystal-clear streams tumble over mossy rocks and waterfalls carve deep grooves into the mountain’s flank. Arrive at Kiharo Camp, set beneath towering cliffs and dense vegetation—a stark and beautiful contrast to the glacial zone above.
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Kiharo Camp
DAY 12: Final Descent to Kilembe – A Celebration of Survival and Wonder
Your last day on the mountain begins with birdsong and the rustle of leaves. The descent follows the Nyamwamba River, through Afro-montane forests thick with fig trees, tree ferns, and a high population of Rwenzori Red Duiker—small antelope native to these mountains.
Stop at Forest View Camp for lunch and enjoy sweeping views of the river valley before the final push back to Kilembe Base Camp. Your mountain journey ends where it began—but you return transformed: stronger, more aware, more connected to the Earth.
Settle into Trekkers Hostel for a hot shower, a celebratory dinner, and perhaps a drink or two with your fellow climbers. You've earned it.

DAY 13: Crater Lake Hike in Fort Portal & Transfer to Kibale Forest
After a hearty breakfast, leave the Rwenzori foothills behind and drive east to the rolling countryside of Fort Portal, a scenic town known for its dramatic views, crater lakes, and tea plantations. Stretch your legs with a guided walk around the nearby Ndali-Kasenda Crater Lakes, where serene waters fill ancient volcanic calderas and distant Rwenzori peaks may still be visible on clear days.
After lunch in town, continue on to Kibale Forest National Park, home to the largest density of primates in Africa. As you check into your forest lodge, the shift in atmosphere is immediate: towering hardwoods, chattering monkeys, and the distant calls of hornbills welcome you to this new world.

The walk is both exhilarating and educational, with rangers pointing out medicinal plants, birdlife, and other primates along the way.
Once you locate the chimps, you’ll spend an unforgettable hour observing their behavior—grooming, feeding, and vocalizing in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for lunch, then in the afternoon, head to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run conservation area rich in birdlife and biodiversity. Keep your eyes peeled for the Great Blue Turaco, hornbills, and playful Red-tailed monkeys.

Why Travelers Trust Us
Our guests don’t just come for the wildlife. They come for something more—the rare combination of uncompromising comfort, authentic connection, and purpose-driven travel that defines every Activenture journey.
If someone had told me that it was possible to go on an African Safari for the first time and it would be a completely stress-free, relaxing, safe and first-rate vacation all the way through, I wouldn’t have believed that was possible. But then I found Diana and her team. All the way through, my wife and I were very impressed with the detail of the planning and the quality of the lodging, guides and drivers. We feel very lucky that we found Diana’s team and we’re grateful for all they did to make our trip one that we will always treasure. We did the 6 days gorilla and tree-climbing lions package.

Diana was very helpful in setting up my Gorilla Tracking excursion to Bwindi. She did all of the leg work so that all we had to do was enjoy the trip.
Robert, our driver, was courteous and professional and provided invaluable assistance during the trip.
I would highly recommend Diana and her Team to anyone considering a trip to Uganda.

We had an amazing family holiday in Uganda, with thanks to Diana and our guide. We visited Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park and finally the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the Mountain Gorillas. The team went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable trip and ensured our safety at all times. Would highly recommend using Diana & her team for your trip.

“What made it unforgettable? The people. The places. The purpose. You’re not just a visitor—you become part of something bigger. I came for the wildlife and left feeling connected to the continent.”

“We’ve traveled extensively, but nothing felt as genuine and personal as this. Our guide had grown up near the park—we weren’t just seeing animals; we were understanding them. And the people.”

“There were moments I forgot I was on a guided trip—it felt more like being hosted by a friend who knew every secret path, every story. I’ll never forget sitting under the stars in Bwindi after our gorilla trek. Life-changing.”

I joined the 20-day birding tour across Uganda and Rwanda—what a paradise. Over 500 species, expert guides, and moments of pure stillness in forests I’d only dreamed of. Spotting the shoebill in Mabamba, just wow!!!. Activentures really knows how to slow you down and tune you in.

Our family safari in Rwanda felt intimate and empowering. We trekked golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, then immersed ourselves in learning basket weaving from a local women’s cooperative. Wow! It was real, raw, and restorative. Activentures made it feel safe, seamless, and deeply human.

Climbing Mt. Kenya with Activentures was wild in the best way. Altitude, silence, the grit, the moments where I thought, ‘I can’t do this,’ and then somehow did. Our guides were incredible—serious when it mattered, but full of stories and laughter too. Summit day nearly broke me, but standing up there, above the clouds, was the most alive I’ve ever felt.
