Itinerary
DAY 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Welcome to the Pearl of Africa.
Upon landing at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly received by your personal Activentures Africa Safaris driver-guide. As your first impression of Uganda—the Pearl of Africa—you'll be transferred to a tranquil lakeside lodge overlooking Lake Victoria. This first evening is about relaxation, acclimatizing, and enjoying the comforts of your tastefully appointed room. Unwind with views over Africa's largest lake, enjoy a fresh meal, and prepare for the journey ahead.
Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Papyrus Guesthouse Entebbe (mid-range)
DAY 2-3: Mabamba Swamp Birding Excursion
Rise with the sun and head out to the tranquil Mabamba Swamp, a RAMSAR-designated wetland tucked along the northern shores of Lake Victoria. This is one of the few remaining strongholds of the rare and prehistoric-looking Shoebill Stork. Glide silently through papyrus-lined channels in a local canoe as the morning mist lifts, revealing a chorus of birdlife: Papyrus Gonoleks calling from the reeds, African Jacanas tiptoeing across floating vegetation, and flashes of the Malachite Kingfisher darting by. Your expert birding guide will help identify over 150 species commonly found here. Return each afternoon to your lodge in Entebbe to relax, reflect, and prepare for the forested adventures ahead.
DAY 4-6: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Depart Entebbe and venture southwest to the mystical, mist-shrouded slopes of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. As you ascend through winding forest roads, the air becomes cooler and crisper, and birdsong intensifies. Spend these days trekking through ancient montane forest in search of Bwindi’s legendary residents—the mountain gorillas—and some of the richest birdlife in Africa.
This is the realm of the Albertine Rift Endemics: scan the dense canopy for the African Green Broadbill, Shelley’s Crimsonwing, and the elusive Handsome Francolin.
One morning is dedicated to gorilla trekking—an emotional, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Optional afternoons include cultural visits with the Batwa people, offering insight into the lives of Bwindi’s original forest custodians.
DAY 7-9: Queen Elizabeth National Park
Descend from the montane forests of Bwindi into the warm savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most ecologically diverse park. These days offer an exciting transition into open landscapes where birding and big game converge. Begin with a sunrise game drive through the Kasenyi Plains, where grassland birds like the Black-headed Gonolek, Temminck’s Courser, and African Wattled Lapwing move among elephants and Uganda kobs.
Midday, enjoy a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, a birding paradise with close views of African Skimmers, Goliath Herons, Great White Pelicans, and a host of kingfishers. Crocodiles and hippos share the banks with wading birds, creating one of the most photogenic wildlife scenes in East Africa. For those interested, an optional drive to the Ishasha Sector offers the chance to spot the rare tree-climbing lions while also scanning for raptors and forest-edge species.
DAY 10-12: Kibale Forest National Park
Head north to Kibale Forest National Park, the primate capital of East Africa. Here, the early morning mist weaves through towering fig and mahogany trees, setting the stage for your chimpanzee tracking adventure. The experience is intimate and electric—the crack of branches above, the rhythmic drumming of chimps on buttress roots, and the excited chatter of family groups moving through the canopy.
Beyond primates, Kibale is one of Uganda’s richest birding destinations. Guided forest walks lead you in search of the Green-breasted Pitta—one of the continent’s most elusive avian gems—as well as species like the Purple-breasted Sunbird, Black-billed Turaco, and White-naped Pigeon.
Visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a lush, community-managed swamp teeming with birdlife. Here, you’ll enjoy sightings of the Great Blue Turaco, Snowy-crowned Robin-chat, and sometimes even the Papyrus Gonolek. The community interaction enriches the experience with stories from local conservationists and guides.
DAY 13-15: Semuliki National Park
Leave the highlands behind as you descend into the low-lying rift valley where Semuliki National Park lies tucked between the Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Albert. This biodiverse region is a melting pot of Central and East African bird species, and Semuliki’s lowland forests hold secrets few birders ever witness. Spend your days exploring swampy clearings and gallery forests in search of Congo Serpent Eagle, Black Dwarf Hornbill, and Nkulengu Rail. Visit the steamy Sempaya Hot Springs and follow the Semuliki River trail, where forest elephants and chimpanzees also roam. In the evenings, sit by firelight with the Batwa or Bakonjo communities and hear traditional stories passed down through generations.
DAY 16-18: Murchison Falls National Park
Continue to Uganda’s largest protected area, Murchison Falls National Park, where the Victoria Nile crashes through a narrow gorge, creating the powerful waterfall that gives the park its name. On early morning game drives across the Buligi circuit, you’ll traverse rolling savannahs in search of Abyssinian Ground Hornbills, Red-throated Bee-eaters nesting in sandy cliffs, and large flocks of Piapiacs trailing herds of buffalo and giraffe.
In the afternoons, take a boat safari along the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. This is a prime opportunity to photograph water birds up close—Goliath Heron, African Fish Eagle, Rock Pratincole—and possibly the rare Shoebill Stork lurking among papyrus reeds. For the adventurous, a hike to the top of the falls reveals stunning panoramic views and new birding angles.
The diversity of habitats here—from riverbanks to acacia woodland—makes it one of Uganda’s most exciting birding landscapes.
DAY 19-20: Return to Entebbe & Botanical Gardens
Wind down your safari with a scenic return to Entebbe. On your final day, explore the lush Entebbe Botanical Gardens, a tranquil birding haven tucked beside Lake Victoria. This historic site offers a gentle pace and a rewarding list of species including African Grey Parrots, African Paradise Flycatchers, and Ross’s Turaco.
Take time to reflect beneath the shade of tall palms as you listen to the last melodies of your birding journey. A comfortable day room awaits for rest and packing before your evening transfer to Entebbe International Airport.
Your safari may be ending—but the chorus of Uganda’s birds will echo long after you’ve returned home.

Why Travelers Trust Us
Our guests don’t just come for the wildlife. They come for something more—the rare combination of uncompromising comfort, authentic connection, and purpose-driven travel that defines every Activenture journey.
If someone had told me that it was possible to go on an African Safari for the first time and it would be a completely stress-free, relaxing, safe and first-rate vacation all the way through, I wouldn’t have believed that was possible. But then I found Diana and her team. All the way through, my wife and I were very impressed with the detail of the planning and the quality of the lodging, guides and drivers. We feel very lucky that we found Diana’s team and we’re grateful for all they did to make our trip one that we will always treasure. We did the 6 days gorilla and tree-climbing lions package.

Diana was very helpful in setting up my Gorilla Tracking excursion to Bwindi. She did all of the leg work so that all we had to do was enjoy the trip.
Robert, our driver, was courteous and professional and provided invaluable assistance during the trip.
I would highly recommend Diana and her Team to anyone considering a trip to Uganda.

We had an amazing family holiday in Uganda, with thanks to Diana and our guide. We visited Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park and finally the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the Mountain Gorillas. The team went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable trip and ensured our safety at all times. Would highly recommend using Diana & her team for your trip.

“What made it unforgettable? The people. The places. The purpose. You’re not just a visitor—you become part of something bigger. I came for the wildlife and left feeling connected to the continent.”

“We’ve traveled extensively, but nothing felt as genuine and personal as this. Our guide had grown up near the park—we weren’t just seeing animals; we were understanding them. And the people.”

“There were moments I forgot I was on a guided trip—it felt more like being hosted by a friend who knew every secret path, every story. I’ll never forget sitting under the stars in Bwindi after our gorilla trek. Life-changing.”

I joined the 20-day birding tour across Uganda and Rwanda—what a paradise. Over 500 species, expert guides, and moments of pure stillness in forests I’d only dreamed of. Spotting the shoebill in Mabamba, just wow!!!. Activentures really knows how to slow you down and tune you in.

Our family safari in Rwanda felt intimate and empowering. We trekked golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, then immersed ourselves in learning basket weaving from a local women’s cooperative. Wow! It was real, raw, and restorative. Activentures made it feel safe, seamless, and deeply human.

Climbing Mt. Kenya with Activentures was wild in the best way. Altitude, silence, the grit, the moments where I thought, ‘I can’t do this,’ and then somehow did. Our guides were incredible—serious when it mattered, but full of stories and laughter too. Summit day nearly broke me, but standing up there, above the clouds, was the most alive I’ve ever felt.
