4-Day Kidepo Valley National Park Wildlife Safari

Venture into Uganda’s most remote and raw wilderness on this 4-day safari through Kidepo Valley National Park, located in the rugged northeast, bordering South Sudan and Kenya. Regarded by many as one of Africa’s last truly untouched wildlife havens, Kidepo offers sweeping savannah landscapes, dramatic mountain backdrops, and an astonishing concentration of wildlife. This itinerary combines classic game drives with rich cultural interactions and guided nature walks, all from the heart of the park in Apoka, where wildlife roams freely across an endless plain.

For travelers looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in a uniquely wild setting, this short trip into Kidepo delivers one of the most authentic safari experiences in East Africa.

DAY 1: Arrival in Kidepo Valley National Park

Your safari begins with a scenic journey to Kidepo Valley National Park, one of Africa’s most spectacular and least-explored wildlife destinations. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge nestled within or near the park’s boundaries. After a welcome briefing and lunch, embark on an afternoon game drive across the sweeping plains of Kidepo. Look out for lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and large buffalo herds. End your day with a sundowner overlooking the dramatic savannah landscape as the sun dips behind the distant mountain ranges.

    Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Kidepo Savannah Lodge (Mid-range) / Apoka Safari Lodge (Luxury)

DAY 2: Full-Day Game Drive and Karamojong Cultural Visit

After breakfast, set out for a full day of exploration in Kidepo’s two main ecosystems: Narus Valley, where water draws most of the park’s wildlife, and Kidepo Valley, home to ostriches and striking desert-like terrain. Encounter large herds of buffalo, elephants, and antelope, with a good chance of seeing cheetahs, leopards, and jackals in the open grasslands. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild. In the afternoon, visit a traditional Karamojong community for a glimpse into their cultural heritage, daily routines, and storytelling through dance and song. Return to the lodge for dinner and a peaceful night under the stars.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Kidepo Savannah Lodge (Mid-range) / Apoka Safari Lodge (Luxury)

DAY 3: Hiking and Nature Walks in Kidepo

Start your day with a guided nature walk or short hike around the park’s rugged terrain, accompanied by experienced rangers. This is a chance to explore the ecosystem on foot, observing unique plant life, insects, and birds—including raptors, hornbills, and the iconic secretary bird. For those seeking panoramic views, you may hike up to lookout points that reveal the vastness of the Kidepo plains stretching to the borderlands. After lunch at the lodge, spend your afternoon at leisure, or enjoy an optional sunset drive or lookout excursion.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Kidepo Savannah Lodge (Mid-range) / Apoka Safari Lodge (Luxury)

DAY 4: Optional Morning Game Drive and Departure

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge and, time permitting, head out for a final morning game drive to catch any last sightings of wildlife or for photography. Afterwards, check out and transfer back toward Entebbe or your next destination. This marks the end of your remarkable safari in Kidepo—Uganda’s wild frontier.

    Why Travelers Trust Us

Our guests don’t just come for the wildlife. They come for something more—the rare combination of uncompromising comfort, authentic connection, and purpose-driven travel that defines every Activenture journey.

If someone had told me that it was possible to go on an African Safari for the first time and it would be a completely stress-free, relaxing, safe and first-rate vacation all the way through, I wouldn’t have believed that was possible. But then I found Diana and her team. All the way through, my wife and I were very impressed with the detail of the planning and the quality of the lodging, guides and drivers. We feel very lucky that we found Diana’s team and we’re grateful for all they did to make our trip one that we will always treasure. We did the 6 days gorilla and tree-climbing lions package.

Diana was very helpful in setting up my Gorilla Tracking excursion to Bwindi. She did all of the leg work so that all we had to do was enjoy the trip.
Robert, our driver, was courteous and professional and provided invaluable assistance during the trip.
I would highly recommend Diana and her Team to anyone considering a trip to Uganda.

We had an amazing family holiday in Uganda, with thanks to Diana and our guide. We visited Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park and finally the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the Mountain Gorillas. The team went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable trip and ensured our safety at all times. Would highly recommend using Diana & her team for your trip.

“What made it unforgettable? The people. The places. The purpose. You’re not just a visitor—you become part of something bigger. I came for the wildlife and left feeling connected to the continent.”

“We’ve traveled extensively, but nothing felt as genuine and personal as this. Our guide had grown up near the park—we weren’t just seeing animals; we were understanding them. And the people.”

“There were moments I forgot I was on a guided trip—it felt more like being hosted by a friend who knew every secret path, every story. I’ll never forget sitting under the stars in Bwindi after our gorilla trek. Life-changing.”

I joined the 20-day birding tour across Uganda and Rwanda—what a paradise. Over 500 species, expert guides, and moments of pure stillness in forests I’d only dreamed of. Spotting the shoebill in Mabamba, just wow!!!. Activentures really knows how to slow you down and tune you in.

    Ingrid Meyer — Hamburg, Germany

Our family safari in Rwanda felt intimate and empowering. We trekked golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, then immersed ourselves in learning basket weaving from a local women’s cooperative. Wow! It was real, raw, and restorative. Activentures made it feel safe, seamless, and deeply human.

Climbing Mt. Kenya with Activentures was wild in the best way. Altitude, silence, the grit, the moments where I thought, ‘I can’t do this,’ and then somehow did. Our guides were incredible—serious when it mattered, but full of stories and laughter too. Summit day nearly broke me, but standing up there, above the clouds, was the most alive I’ve ever felt.
