Experience the raw rhythm of East Africa’s wilderness on this 4-day Ndutu Migration Safari, crafted by Activentures Africa

This journey is designed to follow the Great Wildebeest Migration across southern Serengeti’s lesser-known Ndutu region, where thousands of wildebeests calve on the open plains under the watchful gaze of lurking predators.

You’ll explore three of Tanzania’s most captivating landscapes: the baobab-studded savannahs of Tarangire, the fertile birthing grounds of Ndutu, and the wildlife-rich sanctuary of Ngorongoro Crater—a natural amphitheater sheltering over 30,000 animals within its collapsed caldera.

Whether it’s elephants brushing past ancient trees, lion cubs trailing their mothers through Ndutu’s grasses, or black rhinos emerging from the Ngorongoro mist, this safari offers a front-row seat to nature’s most epic drama.

Itinerary

4-Day Ndutu Migration Safari – Wildebeest Calving & Crater Tour

DAY 1: Arrival in Arusha – Welcome to Tanzania

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, where your Activentures Africa guide will meet you with a warm East African welcome. You’ll be transferred to your lodge in Arusha, a leafy gateway town nestled at the foot of Mount Meru.

This is your time to rest, adjust to the rhythm of safari life, and take in your first glimpses of Tanzanian landscapes. If time permits, enjoy an optional stroll through the local markets or simply relax at the lodge pool before dinner is served.

Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Ilboru Safari Lodge / Similar

DAY 2: Tarangire National Park – Land of Giants

After breakfast, depart Arusha and journey southwest to Tarangire National Park, a lesser-known gem bursting with life and legendary elephant herds. Along the route, you’ll pass Maasai homesteads, cattle-dotted plains, and the striking escarpments of the Great Rift Valley. Once inside the park, begin your game drive beneath towering baobab trees, watching as elephants—sometimes in herds of 100 or more—graze, play, and dust themselves near the Tarangire River.

Keep your eyes peeled for leopards lounging in the trees, elands, giraffes, and migratory zebra herds. You’ll enjoy a scenic picnic lunch in the park before continuing your afternoon drive.

In the evening, transfer to Karatu, a cool highland town bordering the Ngorongoro region. Settle into your comfortable lodge for dinner and overnight rest.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Marera Valley Lodge

DAY 3: Ndutu Migration Safari – Calving Season on the Southern Plains

This morning, venture into the Ndutu region, a special section of Ngorongoro Conservation Area bordering southern Serengeti. This area becomes the epicenter of the wildebeest calving season between January and March—when nearly half a million calves are born within a few weeks, drawing lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals into dramatic survival scenes.

Explore the open plains and acacia woodlands, pausing at Lake Ndutu to spot resident giraffes, bat-eared foxes, and the striking super prides of lions that dominate this ecosystem.

Lunch will be enjoyed in the bush or at the camp, depending on timing. The rest of the afternoon is dedicated to relaxed game viewing and soaking in this little-visited corner of the migration corridor.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Sero Tented Camp

DAY 4: Ngorongoro Crater Safari & Return to Arusha

After an early breakfast, descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife havens. This vast volcanic bowl, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, harbors a concentration of animals unmatched anywhere else on the continent.

Here, you’ll search for the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, buffalo) along with flamingos, hippos, and caracal cats as your expert guide navigates the crater floor’s lush grasslands and soda lakes.

After a rewarding morning, enjoy a final crater-side lunch before beginning your return journey to Arusha, where you’ll be dropped off at the airport or your onward hotel.

Why Travelers Trust Us

Our guests don’t just come for the wildlife. They come for something more—the rare combination of uncompromising comfort, authentic connection, and purpose-driven travel that defines every Activenture journey.

If someone had told me that it was possible to go on an African Safari for the first time and it would be a completely stress-free, relaxing, safe and first-rate vacation all the way through, I wouldn’t have believed that was possible. But then I found Diana and her team. All the way through, my wife and I were very impressed with the detail of the planning and the quality of the lodging, guides and drivers. We feel very lucky that we found Diana’s team and we’re grateful for all they did to make our trip one that we will always treasure. We did the 6 days gorilla and tree-climbing lions package.

Diana was very helpful in setting up my Gorilla Tracking excursion to Bwindi. She did all of the leg work so that all we had to do was enjoy the trip.
Robert, our driver, was courteous and professional and provided invaluable assistance during the trip.
I would highly recommend Diana and her Team to anyone considering a trip to Uganda.

We had an amazing family holiday in Uganda, with thanks to Diana and our guide. We visited Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park and finally the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the Mountain Gorillas. The team went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable trip and ensured our safety at all times. Would highly recommend using Diana & her team for your trip.

“What made it unforgettable? The people. The places. The purpose. You’re not just a visitor—you become part of something bigger. I came for the wildlife and left feeling connected to the continent.”

“We’ve traveled extensively, but nothing felt as genuine and personal as this. Our guide had grown up near the park—we weren’t just seeing animals; we were understanding them. And the people.”

Raj & Mira S. — London

“There were moments I forgot I was on a guided trip—it felt more like being hosted by a friend who knew every secret path, every story. I’ll never forget sitting under the stars in Bwindi after our gorilla trek. Life-changing.”

I joined the 20-day birding tour across Uganda and Rwanda—what a paradise. Over 500 species, expert guides, and moments of pure stillness in forests I’d only dreamed of. Spotting the shoebill in Mabamba, just wow!!!. Activentures really knows how to slow you down and tune you in.

Ingrid Meyer — Hamburg, Germany

Our family safari in Rwanda felt intimate and empowering. We trekked golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, then immersed ourselves in learning basket weaving from a local women’s cooperative. Wow! It was real, raw, and restorative. Activentures made it feel safe, seamless, and deeply human.

Climbing Mt. Kenya with Activentures was wild in the best way. Altitude, silence, the grit, the moments where I thought, ‘I can’t do this,’ and then somehow did. Our guides were incredible—serious when it mattered, but full of stories and laughter too. Summit day nearly broke me, but standing up there, above the clouds, was the most alive I’ve ever felt.
