Itinerary

4-Day Ndutu Migration Safari – Wildebeest Calving & Crater Tour

DAY 1: Arrival in Arusha – Welcome to Tanzania

Your Activentures Africa driver-guide will greet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and whisk you away to a peaceful retreat on the outskirts of Arusha.

As the sun dips behind Mount Meru, you’ll settle into your lodge, surrounded by tropical gardens and birdsong. Enjoy dinner at the restaurant, where spices infuse the air, and begin to unwind into the rhythm of your adventure.

Later in the evening, you’ll meet your guide for a detailed safari briefing over tea or a local cocktail.

Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Arusha Planet Lodge / Similar

DAY 2: Tarangire National Park – Giants, Baobabs & Wildlife Corridors

Rise early for breakfast, then begin your journey southwest to Tarangire National Park, known as the “Land of the Giants.” This is elephant country—vast herds lumber across dry riverbeds, their silhouettes framed by towering baobab trees that have stood for centuries.

Explore the park on a full-day game drive with your private guide. Watch zebra, wildebeest, and gazelle gathering at shrinking waterholes. Look out for the fringe-eared oryx and long-necked gerenuk, rarely seen in other parks.

You’ll stop for a shaded picnic lunch in the wild, listening to the calls of hornbills and the rustle of leaves as animals pass nearby. As the afternoon sun softens the horizon, transfer to Karatu and your lodge overlooking rolling green hills.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Ngorongoro Marera View Lodge

DAY 3: Drive to Serengeti Through Highland Cultures to the Endless Plains

After breakfast, set off through the fertile Iraqw farmlands, a region rich in local culture and coffee fields. Along the way, enjoy a short stop at a local produce market in Karatu—bursting with color, smells of roasted maize, and the chatter of traders. Cross the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, pausing for a panoramic view of the caldera below before continuing into the Serengeti, a name that in Maa means “the land that goes on forever.”

As the plains unfold, you’ll witness thousands of grazing animals, depending on the season—giraffes in the acacias, cheetahs surveying from termite mounds, and the occasional dust cloud of migrating wildebeests.

Arrive at your comfortable tented camp in the bush just as the sky turns amber. Gather around the fire with fellow travelers before enjoying a locally inspired dinner under the stars.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Heritage Tented Camp

DAY 4: Serengeti Sunrise to Ngorongoro Crater

Start your morning with coffee and the echo of lion calls in the distance. Head out on a sunrise game drive—one of the best times to witness predators on the move and the plains coming alive.

Watch as elephants plod across the misty savannah and hyenas pick their path through golden grass. After a mid-morning breakfast back at camp, you’ll make your way toward Ngorongoro Crater.

As you ascend the forested rim, cool air sweeps across your face and the crater opens before you like a forgotten world.

Tonight, you’ll sleep at a cozy lodge on the rim’s edge, warmed by a crackling fire and views of mist-covered valleys.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Rhino Lodge

DAY 5: Ngorongoro Crater Safari – Nature’s Masterpiece

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, for a full morning of immersive game viewing.

With your guide, track the movements of black-maned lions, grazing buffalo, and maybe even a glimpse of the endangered black rhino. Watch hippos yawn in shallow pools, flamingos wade through alkaline lakes, and elephants feed along the forested edge.

You’ll enjoy a packed lunch at a scenic spot on the crater floor, where the breeze carries the scent of wild sage and the call of distant crowned cranes.

In the afternoon, climb the crater’s steep wall and return to Arusha, reflecting on all you’ve seen and felt in just a few days.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Arusha Planet Lodge

DAY 6: Departure or Zanzibar Extension

After a relaxed breakfast, your Activentures Africa driver will transfer you to Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha Airport in time for your flight home.

Prefer to unwind on the coast? Many of our travelers extend their safari with a 3–5-day stay on Zanzibar Island, where turquoise waters and white sands offer the perfect balance to your wildlife adventure.

Ask us to help tailor the extension that’s right for you.

Why Travelers Trust Us

Our guests don’t just come for the wildlife. They come for something more—the rare combination of uncompromising comfort, authentic connection, and purpose-driven travel that defines every Activenture journey.

If someone had told me that it was possible to go on an African Safari for the first time and it would be a completely stress-free, relaxing, safe and first-rate vacation all the way through, I wouldn’t have believed that was possible. But then I found Diana and her team. All the way through, my wife and I were very impressed with the detail of the planning and the quality of the lodging, guides and drivers. We feel very lucky that we found Diana’s team and we’re grateful for all they did to make our trip one that we will always treasure. We did the 6 days gorilla and tree-climbing lions package.

Diana was very helpful in setting up my Gorilla Tracking excursion to Bwindi. She did all of the leg work so that all we had to do was enjoy the trip.
Robert, our driver, was courteous and professional and provided invaluable assistance during the trip.
I would highly recommend Diana and her Team to anyone considering a trip to Uganda.

We had an amazing family holiday in Uganda, with thanks to Diana and our guide. We visited Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park and finally the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the Mountain Gorillas. The team went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable trip and ensured our safety at all times. Would highly recommend using Diana & her team for your trip.

“What made it unforgettable? The people. The places. The purpose. You’re not just a visitor—you become part of something bigger. I came for the wildlife and left feeling connected to the continent.”

Alex G. — Cape Town

“We’ve traveled extensively, but nothing felt as genuine and personal as this. Our guide had grown up near the park—we weren’t just seeing animals; we were understanding them. And the people.”

Raj & Mira S. — London

“There were moments I forgot I was on a guided trip—it felt more like being hosted by a friend who knew every secret path, every story. I’ll never forget sitting under the stars in Bwindi after our gorilla trek. Life-changing.”

I joined the 20-day birding tour across Uganda and Rwanda—what a paradise. Over 500 species, expert guides, and moments of pure stillness in forests I’d only dreamed of. Spotting the shoebill in Mabamba, just wow!!!. Activentures really knows how to slow you down and tune you in.

Ingrid Meyer — Hamburg, Germany

Our family safari in Rwanda felt intimate and empowering. We trekked golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, then immersed ourselves in learning basket weaving from a local women’s cooperative. Wow! It was real, raw, and restorative. Activentures made it feel safe, seamless, and deeply human.

Climbing Mt. Kenya with Activentures was wild in the best way. Altitude, silence, the grit, the moments where I thought, ‘I can’t do this,’ and then somehow did. Our guides were incredible—serious when it mattered, but full of stories and laughter too. Summit day nearly broke me, but standing up there, above the clouds, was the most alive I’ve ever felt.
