Big game safari in Murchison & Queen, and Primates in Kibale and Bwindi Forest.

Experience the unforgettable on this 8-day journey through Uganda’s most celebrated wilderness. From the open savannahs of Murchison Falls to the dense jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, this trip brings you face to face with Africa’s legendary Big Five—rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard—alongside rare encounters with chimpanzees and mountain gorillas. This itinerary is tailored for wildlife lovers, nature photographers, and curious adventurers looking for a short but comprehensive safari across Uganda’s most iconic parks.

You’ll begin your trip tracking endangered white rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary before entering Murchison Falls National Park, where the Nile explodes through a narrow gorge in a dramatic cascade. You'll continue to the primate-rich Kibale Forest for chimpanzee trekking, pass through the savannahs of Queen Elizabeth National Park for classic game viewing and a cruise on the Kazinga Channel, and end your adventure deep in the mountainous forests of Bwindi, home to half the world’s population of mountain gorillas.

    Itinerary

    8-Day Uganda Big-5 Safari + Gorillas & Chimpanzee Trekking

DAY 1: Arrival and Transfer to Murchison Falls via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or from your overnight hotel, meet your safari guide and depart north toward Murchison Falls National Park. On the way, stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for an on-foot tracking experience with southern white rhinos—Uganda’s only location for rhino sightings. After lunch at Kabalega Diner, continue through rural landscapes and woodlands until you reach the park. Cross the Nile and settle into your lodge as the sun sets over Uganda’s largest protected area.

Meals: Pakuba Safari Lodge (Mid-range) / Paraa Safari Lodge (Luxury)

DAY 2: Game Drive and Boat Safari to the Base of the Falls.

Wake up early for a morning game drive on the northern bank of the Nile, where you’ll encounter large herds of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and possibly lions and leopards hunting in the open savannah. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, take a boat safari upstream to the base of the mighty Murchison Falls. On the way, observe hippos, Nile crocodiles, bathing elephants, and flocks of aquatic birds. An optional guided hike to the top of the falls is available for those seeking sweeping panoramic views.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation:Pakuba Safari Lodge (Mid-range) / Paraa Safari Lodge (Luxury)

DAY 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.

After breakfast, begin the scenic journey southwest to Kibale Forest National Park. This drive takes you through tea plantations, lush countryside, and crater lakes. Known for its high primate density, Kibale is home to 13 species of primates including the endangered chimpanzee. Arrive in the late afternoon and settle into your forest lodge for a peaceful evening surrounded by birdcalls and jungle sounds.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Kibale Forest Camp (Mid-range) / Primate Lodge Kibale (Luxury)

DAY 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Begin your morning with a briefing at Kanyanchu Visitor Centre before heading into the forest with expert trackers. You’ll search for chimpanzees in their natural habitat, often encountering them feeding, grooming, or swinging through the trees. After an exhilarating hour with a habituated group, return to the lodge for lunch and depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive takes you along the Rwenzori foothills and past crater lakes before arriving in time for dinner.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Kasenyi Safari Camp (Mid-range) / Mweya Safari Lodge (Luxury)

DAY 5: Game Drive and Boat Cruise on the Kazinga Channel

This morning, explore the Kasenyi plains on a guided game drive. Expect sightings of elephants, lions, warthogs, kob, hyenas, and possibly leopards. Return to the lodge for lunch and head out again in the afternoon for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel—a natural waterway connecting Lake Edward and Lake George. You'll pass pods of hippos, crocodiles, and a spectacular array of waterbirds including kingfishers, storks, and African fish eagles.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Kasenyi Safari Camp (Mid-range) / Mweya Safari Lodge (Luxury)

DAY 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest via Ishasha.

After breakfast, drive through the remote Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its population of tree-climbing lions. While sightings aren’t guaranteed, there’s a good chance to see these big cats lounging in fig trees. Continue south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a World Heritage Site and the most important stronghold of mountain gorillas. Arrive at your lodge nestled in the forested hills and rest ahead of tomorrow’s gorilla trek.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch, Dinner
    Accommodation: Mahogany Springs Lodge (Mid-range/Luxury)

DAY 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Today is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast and a detailed briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, head into the forest for your gorilla trekking adventure. Hike through dense foliage, following trackers to find one of the habituated gorilla families. Once found, spend a full hour observing their behavior, a moment few will ever forget. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and continue on to Lake Bunyonyi, a beautiful and serene volcanic lake dotted with 29 islands.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch, Dinner

    Why Travelers Trust Us

Our guests don’t just come for the wildlife. They come for something more—the rare combination of uncompromising comfort, authentic connection, and purpose-driven travel that defines every Activenture journey.

If someone had told me that it was possible to go on an African Safari for the first time and it would be a completely stress-free, relaxing, safe and first-rate vacation all the way through, I wouldn’t have believed that was possible. But then I found Diana and her team. All the way through, my wife and I were very impressed with the detail of the planning and the quality of the lodging, guides and drivers. We feel very lucky that we found Diana’s team and we’re grateful for all they did to make our trip one that we will always treasure. We did the 6 days gorilla and tree-climbing lions package.

Diana was very helpful in setting up my Gorilla Tracking excursion to Bwindi. She did all of the leg work so that all we had to do was enjoy the trip.
Robert, our driver, was courteous and professional and provided invaluable assistance during the trip.
I would highly recommend Diana and her Team to anyone considering a trip to Uganda.

We had an amazing family holiday in Uganda, with thanks to Diana and our guide. We visited Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park and finally the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the Mountain Gorillas. The team went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable trip and ensured our safety at all times. Would highly recommend using Diana & her team for your trip.

“What made it unforgettable? The people. The places. The purpose. You’re not just a visitor—you become part of something bigger. I came for the wildlife and left feeling connected to the continent.”

“We’ve traveled extensively, but nothing felt as genuine and personal as this. Our guide had grown up near the park—we weren’t just seeing animals; we were understanding them. And the people.”

“There were moments I forgot I was on a guided trip—it felt more like being hosted by a friend who knew every secret path, every story. I’ll never forget sitting under the stars in Bwindi after our gorilla trek. Life-changing.”

I joined the 20-day birding tour across Uganda and Rwanda—what a paradise. Over 500 species, expert guides, and moments of pure stillness in forests I’d only dreamed of. Spotting the shoebill in Mabamba, just wow!!!. Activentures really knows how to slow you down and tune you in.

    Ingrid Meyer — Hamburg, Germany

Our family safari in Rwanda felt intimate and empowering. We trekked golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, then immersed ourselves in learning basket weaving from a local women’s cooperative. Wow! It was real, raw, and restorative. Activentures made it feel safe, seamless, and deeply human.

Climbing Mt. Kenya with Activentures was wild in the best way. Altitude, silence, the grit, the moments where I thought, ‘I can’t do this,’ and then somehow did. Our guides were incredible—serious when it mattered, but full of stories and laughter too. Summit day nearly broke me, but standing up there, above the clouds, was the most alive I’ve ever felt.
