On entering the Tsavo East National Park, we were quite literally in a crude and uncivilized variant of Africa that has its own rules to observe. Long, long stretches of open plainland spread before and behind us, dust was flying in the heat, and the game appeared when we did not know it was coming.

On the first game drive in the  Park, we quickly understood that it was not a normal game safari park but an experience that remained in our memory despite the fact that we had returned to our room.

First Impressions of Tsavo East National Park

The impression of the first sight of the park is hard to explain to a visitor, and this impression is vast. The sceneries are dramatic and uninhabited, with expansive savannah interrupted by rocks and vegetation of rivers. The silence here is immense, unlike in busier parks, and each animal sight can be considered a personal and exciting moment.

Location

Tsavo East national park is located in southeast Kenya between Nairobi and the coastal town of Mombasa. Others who visit it also include those who are on a safari and beach holiday due to its strategic position. The park is located within the greater ecosystem that is among the largest protected wildlife areas in Africa which provides an authentic and spacious safari setting.

History of the Park

The park has an interesting and even dramatic background. It is among the oldest national parks in Kenya formed in the year 1948. The region got global coverage in the process of building the Kenya-Uganda railway as man-eating lions were said to have been terrorizing employees. In the course of time, the park developed into a significant part of tourism and ecological heritage in Kenya.

What Makes Tsavo East National Park Special?

The only thing that makes this park unique is its rough beauty and unique wildlife. A well-known picture is the red elephants with the rust-colored soil . The terrain is open and viewing of Game is very good with natural landmarks such as the Yatta Plateau, the longest lava flow in the world providing geological marvel. Galana River brings life to the park and makes scenic contrasts in the dry plains with the animals.

A visitor can also see leopards and cheetahs as well as a startling array of the bird life around water bodies with patience and fortune.

Best Safari Camps and Lodges

A mix of nature and comfort is achieved in the area. Safari camps are constructed in such a way that they expose guests to the surroundings with attention to watering holes or rivers. Lodges vary in terms of rustic and eco-friendly to more luxurious lodges that have their pools and panoramic decks.

Remaining in or around the park will add to the experience enabling one to have the benefit of morning drives and night drives in the late afternoon when the wildlife is at its peak activity.

Iconic Landscapes and Natural Features

The dramatic and varied landscape is the nature of Tsavo East National Park. The open plains bring out the impression of an eternity but the Yatta Plateau has been perceived as a very conspicuous volcanic feature that can be viewed several miles afar.

The Galana river passes through the arid terrain and introduces a change of wildlife and greenery which is refreshing. All these properties combine in creating the uncivilized beauty in the park and contribute to the abundant ecosystem.

Best Time to Visit

The park can be visited throughout the year though the dry season is the  best season to view wildlife which falls between June and October as well as January and February. In these months animals crowd around water bodies, and thus they are more likely to be spotted. The rainy seasons also include fertile sceneries as well as the lack of visitors, which attract individuals who prefer greens and less crowded places.
